Day 28: Dealing with meltdowns
This is such a personal thing that I can’t really write a general post about how to deal with meltdowns.
I suppose try and identify the triggers and signs of an oncoming meltdown and do what you can to about them?
Once the meltdown has started, I tend to take a step back and stay near the person but also give them space. At a certain point, after the meltdown has peaked, you might ask the Peterson what they need from you. Or you may know already through knowing the person well. Some need a hug, some need reassurance, some prefer total quiet etc. It really depends on the person.
I tend to have shutdowns rather than meltdowns. But for either one, I need to retreat to a dark room and be left alone.
Day 29: Famous Autistics
As I refuse to “out” anyone or “armchair” diagnose or posthumously diagnose anyone, I’ll only list those who have mentioned themselves that they are autistic. And I’ll add a link to where they say it. This is not an exhaustive list by any means, just those I can list off the top of my head!
